A World of Fun and Culture Awareness at SIUE Students’ Finger Tips
Students participated in sporting activities, many from a slightly different approach, Tuesday on the campus of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville at the Student Fitness Center.
SIUE students enjoyed taking part in the 8th Annual Cougar World Games and the Great Disability Challenge.
“The students participated in activities which they may never had the opportunity to do so before,” said Natalie Rosales, intramural and aquatics coordinator with SIUE Campus Recreation.
Some of the activities included:
- Video cycling through Europe
- Climbing in the Bouldering Cave
- Zumba and Kick-boxing demonstrations
- A chalk-mural activity of the Aurora Borealis
- Interactions with SIUE faculty and staff from different countries from the Around the World display
“The Disability Challenge engaged students in activities that challenged their motor, sight and hearing abilities with such activities as sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball,” said Rosales.
The Cougar World Games highlights various cultures, backgrounds and ethnicities. It became a part of Global Awareness Week for the purpose of promoting diversity, understanding and acceptance among groups.
